The park itself is located in the Gaslamp Quarter, just north of downtown San Diego, and it’s home to many attractions including museums, galleries, restaurants, shops, and more. You can explore this thriving 19th century town for free or you can head over to our visitors center for information about tours and activities.

There are so many things to do in Old Town. There’s the historic district, which includes attractions like the Casa de Estudillo House and the Whaley House Museum, both former residences of early settlers. There’s also the All American Canal Bikeway, which offers a quiet alternative to more bustling parts of town. If you’re looking for something more active, head to nearby Balboa Park for a round of golf or a leisurely bike ride through one of its gardens.

If you’d rather not stray too far from Old Town, take in some art at the Old Town Art Institute or browse some local wares at one of the many shops that line San Diego Avenue. Of course, no visit would be complete without indulging in their famous tamales!

 

Admission and Parking

Visitors can explore Old Town San Diego State Historic Park for free. It’s open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of major holidays and special events, which are subject to change without notice.

Parking is available at the parking lot located on Grape Street between Union and Main Streets for $9 per day with in and out privileges or $4 for three hours. Parking meters are also located on Main St., Union St., Fir St., and Grape St.

The park is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. It’s open at 10:00 am and closes at 5:00 pm.
