Barton Springs Pool is only one of many springs that feed the Barton Creek. The creek starts in the hill country and runs for about 10 miles before it joins up with Lady Bird Lake. It was named after John Barton, the first settler to build a house near the spring in 1837. Many people believe that John Barton built his cabin right on top of the spring and it’s possible he even buried a keg of whiskey at the bottom of the pool.
In 1839, John Barton’s son-in-law built a hotel on top of the spring. In 1861, an inn opened up at nearby Fort Hood, which is less than 100 miles from Austin. Today, there are still four hotels that serve visitors to Barton Springs Pool. This gives Barton Springs Pool a lot more traffic than its natural springs would have otherwise received.

“Massage by Design was one of the highlights of our 80th Annual Conference. Thank you for providing our attendees an opportunity to enjoy a moment of relaxation during our conference. Your very professional therapists, I believe, enjoyed themselves as much as the attendees. What a treat! I look forward to working with Massage by Design again in the future.”
